In September 2015, my three boys went to live with their dad for the school year, 150 miles away in Albany, NY. I struggled with this decision for months, until a little publication know as O, The Oprah Magazine picked up on my story. With the help of life coach, Iyanla Vanzant, I was able to embrace the new situation.
I have a new appreciation for all non-custodial parents, but most importantly, I have a better relationship with my boys. Instead of constantly running around trying to do everything right (and failing miserably at times), we can just be. We can have fun, laugh, try new things, and I can better appreciate the unique human beings that share my DNA.
