I am The Weekend Mom
I'm Theresa. I was not always the weekend mom. No, for 10 years I was the try-to-be-perfect mom. Everything had to be just right. My kids had the best birthday parties. I homeschooled, so they could have the best education, balanced with a flexible activity schedule.
But when my marriage ended, I became the single mom. I became the try-to-do-it-all mom, but felt like I was constantly failing to live up to my own expectations. During this time, I was going to school, working full-time, and starting a business while shuffling the three boys from school to activites. I was harried to say the least. I constantly felt torn between needing some "me time" and giving more of my time to the kids.
So, when the opportunity came for my boys to live with their dad, I was secretly relieved. Having recently graduated, and now expanding my business, I finally had a chance to figure out who I was as a woman, entrepreneur and a mother.
To the world though, this experience has felt embarrassing at times. What kind of mother lets her children live far away? I have now accepted the new reality, and I hope you will not judge me too harshly for my choice. I think I am the better for it. If you gain anything from the lessons I've learned and shared thus far, I would love to hear from you.
